Ocular Allergies... We Can Help!

Allergic conjunctivitis

Despite what Mother Nature may have you believe, spring is right around the corner! Not only is it that lovely time of year where flowers bloom and the leaves return to trees, but for many people it is the worst time of year for allergies. Whether it be allergies to pollen, mold, or dander, many of the eye-related symptoms are the same:

  • itchiness
  • redness
  • watery discharge
  • irritation
  • variable vision
  • swelling of the eyelids
  • intolerance of contact lenses

If any of these symptoms sound familiar, we can help! There are many treatments that can be prescribed to help reduce, and in some cases, eliminate those symptoms. While taking a systemic allergy medication, whether it be prescribed or over-the-counter can be helpful, there are specific treatments that may more effectively target ocular symptoms including:

  • over-the-counter allergy drops
  • prescription allergy drops
  • cold compresses
  • artificial tear drops
  • specialized contact lens care systems
  • daily disposable contact lenses

One additional note...many patients that are found to have seasonal or chronic ocular allergy symptoms may not exhibit the systemic symptoms such as nasal and sinus problems that people usually think of when talking about allergies. If any of the symptoms listed above sound familiar, call us for an appointment! Don't suffer needlessly, we can help!
